Seiko, a watchmaking company with a long history that can be dated from 1881. They have made a lot of iconic watches that are loved by users and collectors alike. The Seiko SARB033 and 035 is no doubt one of the iconic watches that Seiko have made in the recent years. Simple, elegant, and comfortable are the words that come to my mind when I first put the SARB033 and 035 on my wrist.
I've owned many watches over the years. Rolex and Seiko are the brands that I love the most. But out of all the watches, the SARB033 and 035 are my daily beaters. With the relatively affordable price, I don't worry about scratching the watch or banging it. At the same time, it doesn't look cheap - it looks very similar to a Rolex Datejust, just without the huge price tag. Although it is not a Diver's watch, it has a water resistance of 10 bars, which is equivalent to a 100m dive. It is enough to handle a casual swim at the beach.
- You can easily get a used SARB033 or 035 with under $350. But in that package, you get a in-house Seiko 6R15 movement, a 23/24 jewel movement from the Seiko lineup that vibrates at 21,600bph. What's more, it has a 50 hours of power reserve, and has handwinding and hacking functions. Accuracy is good to -15/+25 seconds per day. Yes you may say it is not as accurate as a Rolex Datejust, but the SARB033 and 035 is only 1/10th the price of a Rolex Datejust. You can't even buy the bracelet of the Rolex Datejust with $350.
- The glass is Sapphire crystal, the same mineral material that is used on many high-end watches like Rolex and Omega.
- The watch is made from Stainless Steel, which is also used by many luxury watchmakers in Swiss. So with only a fraction of the price tag of a Swiss wristwatch, you get something that is very similar in quality of a Swiss counterpart.
- Watch designs are getting bigger and thicker nowadays. This is one of the trend that I don't understand in the modern watch design, when a Rolex Deepsea Sea Dweller is 46mm in size and almost 20mm in thickness. Aren't wristwatch suppose to be small and light, so they sit comfortably on your wrist? I love the SARB033 and 035 because of it comfortable watch size. It is 38mm in diameter, and only 11mm in thickness. Very light on the wrist as well as it weight 140g only. May be it is just me, the modern watches are just too thick and heavy. When I have to carry 250g of metal on my wrist, I'd rather put the watch aside.
- How fashionable can a watch be? well, thank to the 20mm lug size, the SARB033 and 035 has a large selection of watch strap. This watch comes originally with a Stainless steel strap, so it looks sporty and ready for action. but with its 38mm watch size and the elegant dial design, it can be wore as a dress watch as well. Change to a leather strap, and it can easily become a dressier watch.
So all of this, the price, the design, the comfort, and the fashionability, the SARB033 and 035 is one of the best watches you can get without breaking your bank.
